Interview for newspaper
Today they asked me to answer a few questions, tomorrow those letters and sentences are published in a news paper.
Why did you choose Kesklinna Noortekeskus as your voluntary service organisation?
Did you do voluntary
work also in Belgium?
Why did you choose Kesklinna Noortekeskus as your voluntary service organisation?
I chose to come to Kesklinna youth center
because it is a place with great opportunities. The team is ambitious and that is something I like. Also I felt like
this could be a good place to try my skills and use the knowledge that I have
gained during all my years of studying.
5 most great
things you have experienced during your evs
1: jumping from the singing arena
2: joining a folk music (weekend) camp
3: mushrooming in the forest
4: getting to know the Estonian culture
(nature, food, people)
5: being surrounded by international people
Why should young
people go to evs?
To really
get to know yourself and to experience living abroad. This involves being
independent, being able to communicate with different types of people, learning
to solve problems, etc.
Yes, I have
been active as a volunteer in Belgium also. When I was younger, I spent a lot
of time in the local youth house. I was helping them out with bar tending but
also I organized concerts. Now, I am
volunteering for the Flemish National Agency. Together we find ways to promote
going abroad among young people.
How popular is
voluntary work in Belgium?
Voluntary
work is a big thing in Belgium. The main places for (young) people to volunteer
are NGOs and since we have thousands of those, the number of volunteers is
high. Youth movements for instance, such as scouts, are mainly running on
volunteers.
